My family – at least my dad and grandma (his mom) – were superstitious. They always made me eat at least one spoonful of black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day. For luck. They’re gone now, and nobody can make me eat black-eyed peas anymore. But what if they were right? About the luck? And anyway, I like this dish. I make it vegan – no salt pork here. Hopping John and Happy New Year!

Black-eyed peas have always been a tradition in our family too. I love it with corn bread and collard greens. Great video! I’ll have to try your recipe some time.
