It’s day four of NaVloPoMo and I’m squeaking this post in just before midnight – I barely made it. I’ve been taking a break all day because I’m very tired and fighting off a cold – my throat has been sore for three days, but I refuse to give in.

These are some scenes from PodCampAZ. I truly stink at vlogging my own presentations (thank zod for everyone’s Flickr photos). I only got the very start of my Show In A Box session. But you can see what a fun day it was. I am thunderstruck with awe at how great a job Brent and Michelle Spore did putting this thing together. It was awesome and truly inspiring. Here’s to you, Arizona vloggers. As Clint would say, “Vlog on, bitches.”

I pre-ordered the MicroMemo by XtremeMac back in June 2006, got it in August, and made a video the day I took it out of the box. But then Vloggercon came, and then my trip to New Zealand, and then the whole fall semester, and I just forgot about it.

Since it rained today, I could not photograph the tree removal, so I decided to post this critter instead. Maybe it will help someone considering buying a voice recorder if they can see how it works. On the whole, I recommend this gadget! I used it to record long meeting for podcast on my neighborhood website, and it worked like a dream.

When my department chair told me that Phoenix College would be canceling classes on December 6 if there weren’t enough students enrolled, I got really worried about my videoblogging class. It’s being offered for the first time, and no one would even know to look for it. So I decided to send an email announcement to the Maricopa Community Colleges email distribution list, and as an afterthought, I submitted a press release form to PC’s marketing department.

Luckily, the press release generated some interest and was picked up by the Arizona Business Gazette. I was interviewed by reporter Alison Stanton on December 4, and her article was published yesterday. She was nice enough to email me and let me know.

I’m looking forward to Tuesday, January 2, when I can go see whether the article had any immediate effect on enrollment.

Podcasting & Videoblogging Class at Phoenix College

Hey, I’m teaching a Podcasting and Videoblogging class at Phoenix College. Sign yourself up for the adventure! It’s set for Spring 2007, Mondays from 5-9pm beginning January 22, at the PC Downtown Campus (640 N. 1st Ave.). If you are even remotely interested, you should sign up right away. The class will be cancelled if not enough people sign up! If you decide not to take it, you will get a full refund if you withdraw before the class starts; but if you don’t sign up and the class is cancelled, you might lose your chance altogether. Look for a promotional video coming soon.

The class is based on Jen Simmons‘ course – many thanks to Jen for permission to adapt her syllabus. And thanks to Dale Doubleday, Art Department Chair at Phoenix College, for her support and forward thinking ways.

XtremeMac finally releases digital audio recorder for iPod Video

XtremeMac‘s Micromemoâ„¢, a digital audio recorder for iPod, is scheduled to begin shipping in early July. The price is $59.95, which is pretty reasonable if it works, expecially considering there is nothing else out there for recording audio into a video iPod.

The web site says it accepts input from other devices. That’s something I’m looking forward to. Might be a quick way to convert lousy video into audio-only on the fly without capturing the video to a computer. I have to agree with Philip Hodgetts:

If it’s not necessary to watch the video portion to get the value from a program, then dump the video and just go with audio.

I’m pre-ordering now. When I get it, I’ll test it out and post a review.
